Things you should know about your caravan.
Towing 1 2 3
Before you go
You are required by law to have two large towing mirrors.
The GVM of the caravan should not exceed the TARE mass of your tow vehicle. Different rules apply for towing a trailer without a braking system.
Check that your licence disk is displayed on the caravan’s window, preferably the rear window.
Make sure that you have comprehensive insurance; some insurance policies for caravans do not cover personal effects.
Prepare to move
Before any journey, check the tyre pressures and tighten the wheel nuts.
Check that your caravan’s tail, brake lights and indicators are working correctly.
Fit your towing mirrors.
Check that all windows, catches and doors are locked and that all loose items are secure.
Do not forget to release the handbrake before you go.
Remember that the maximum speed limit towing a caravan is 110Km, but most manufacturers recommend 100Km.
At the caravan park
Try to tow the caravan as close to the site as possible.
If possible, do not set up under trees. Bird droppings can spoil the tent and caravan roof.
Level the caravan, this is important if you are running your fridge on gas and makes the erection of your tent easier.
If the caravan is to be set up on sloping ground, dig a small hole for the wheel on the higher side. Wind down the corner steadies.
Sit back, relax and enjoy.
